And then–here are two pages from a book I made last week in Miami Beach–too crowded to please me artistically but another example of how I’m trying to merge comics and sketchnote techniques to think.

Ok, one of the latest things I’ve been doing is preparing for teaching residencies by observing classroom teachers. I find myself using a text/image style that kinda merges comic frames and sketchnoting. I’m teaching both of those styles this year…

Hey, one of my next challenges is adapting visual note-taking to 1st graders! Map project!! Will probably start with simple grids capturing what they see, imagine, etc. but if anyone has any experience or tips with primary grade kids, bring it on!

In mid-November, I began teaching a unit integrating Sketchnote techniques with the study of poetry, in collaboration with an 8th grade Language Arts teacher. I adapted some of the techniques to help students listen to and interpret poetry. Here are some of my models, often showing several versions of the same text. (source texts included Harlem by Walter Dean Myers, Sunday Mornings by…Read More

Next images? In early November, created a sketchnote to analyze my progress, and then created a side-by-side agenda and meeting notes. Along the way, worked on creating core fonts and creating a visual vocabulary (those images not shown).m

OK, I’ve been waiting for the perfect time to start this log…and it never arrives. Going to do some catch-up here, so multiple posts with different sets of sketchnotes attached.
This first set was created when observing the 8th grade LA teacher I was about to collaborate with.
